As many of us have noticed gas prices continue to hit all-time highs. What used to take $30 to fill up now takes $60 or more. This has caused more financial stress on individuals as they are having to eat into their paycheck more than usual. The law states that employers must reimburse employees for fuel expenses that occur during work hours for work purposes and when the employee’s fuel cost for commute subtracted from the salary nets an hourly wage below minimum wage. Recently, we’ve seen many companies offering a monthly gas compensation/reimbursement as part of their overall benefits package. Providing a fuel relief to your employees will not only encourage them to work but also accept a non-virtual job but will also show your gratitude and appreciation for your employees. We can only hope that inflation ends soon, and we see fuel prices stabilize again, but for now, should more companies be acting on this added benefit?
